How the checking works

The short version. The full rules are in METHOD.md, and every source with its current trust score is in sources.yaml.

Checked before it goes out

For the first 14 days, every claim gets at least a spot-check against the vendor's docs, release notes, repo or an independent source. After that, claims from top-tier sources are taken at face value: we confirm the cited link exists and fully audit 1 in 10. Everything else is still checked. If we can't confirm a claim, we leave it out or mark it as not verified.

The label tells you how far we got

Verified
Confirmed against the vendor's or author's own record, or an independent source.
Docs-verified
True per the docs. Not tested hands-on.
Vendor claim
The product exists. Performance claims are the vendor's.
Top-tier source
Taken at face value from a top-tier source. We checked that the cited link exists, not every statement.
Not verified
We couldn't confirm it. Don't act on it.
Check blocked
We couldn't check it. Don't act on it.
Provisional
Published in the scanner's first 14 days, before any source has a track record.

Sources earn their trust

Every source starts with the same neutral score. Fourteen days after an item goes out (for predictions, 14 days after the deadline), we check it again. Claims that hold up raise the source's score and claims that don't lower it. If we find a re-checked claim was wrong within 90 days, it loses its credit and counts against the source.

Breaking AI News is different

The Breaking list at the top of the homepage is ranked by engagement and is not verified. It's there so you see what people are talking about. Check the linked source before acting on any of it.
